Common Nouns
If a noun does not start with a capital letter, it is considered a common noun.
The main common nouns are:
Body parts and organ nouns:
head, arm, hand, foot, chest, etc.
Kinship nouns:
mother, father, sister, uncle, still, aunt, etc.
Tool or item nouns:
spoon, scissors, cup, thread, needle, etc.
Animal and plant nouns:
cat, eagle, nut, walnut, cherry, etc.
Concepts:
thought, goal, intelligence, desire, etc.
Job, profession, professional nouns:
teacher, teacher, lawyer, worker, officer, professional, football player etc.
Nouns to wear:
jacket, shoes, shirt, gloves, etc.
Food nouns:
apple, food, bread, pepper, etc.
Beverage nouns:
water, soft drink, soda, etc.
Number nouns:
ten, five hundred, one, etc.
Color nouns:
yellow, red, purple, etc.
Time nouns:
month, hour, minute, year, etc.
Question Words:
what, who, which, etc. These are pronouns that replace a noun in a sentence or a phrase.
